VH1 is taking another look at the 1970's with I Love The 70's, Volume 2.  Of particular interest to us is their recap of 1976 in which they cover The Omen.  For more information and a complete schedule, click their logo on the left and visit their official site!  Thanks to HellsYeah for posting this in the Disciples of the Watch forum on July 13, 2006.

Nearly three weeks late for announcing the winner of their Omen Short Film Contest, the Myspace-Omen site has finally chosen the best apocalyptic short.  Click the screen cap from the film to visit the site and watch the short!

The Omen SE hit stores June 20, 2006.  Nice packaging (click the image to check it out)  As for disc content, it's a nice assembly of items but not as nice as it could have been. The movie transfer seems a bit washed out compared to the SE transfer. The NEW bonus material almost makes up for the OLD bonus material that we already got on the SE and Omen Legacy DVD. Almost.  My full review forthcoming.

The Collector's Edition releases on 6/20/06.  All-new Commentary by director Richard Donner & writer/director Brian Helgeland; Special introduction by Richard Donner; The Omen Legacy documentary; Deleted Scene - Dog Attack with commentary; David Seltzer on Writing the Omen; An Appreciation: Wes Craven on The Omen; and a still Gallery!

Think you know The Omen, eh? Well, if you've never read David Seltzer's original adaptation of his screenplay, you're in for a few surprises.  Meet Mrs. baylock, a big, beefy, and boisterous woman who likes to paint her face up like a clown before turning in for the night? Or how about that sleezy photojournalist named Jennings? Always saying the most inappropriate things. And do you know the nanny, Chessa? What about the Italian priest, Tassone? We can't forget the American ambassador himself: Jeremy Thorn.

I'll have a more thorough review as time permits.  But I wanted to address this score with some first impressions.  And, I must say, I'm enjoying it.  Like many of you, I was skeptical about the direction in which a new composer might go. But I've been a fan of Marco Beltrami ever since he redefined the post-modern horror score in Scream.  As it turns out, I needn't have worried.

No such update can be found over at heedtheomen.com (the only website advertised on all posters), which still only directs you to the apple.com-powered teaser and trailer.

'WONDERCON' TEASER SURFACES!

Bloggers and news outlets reported on two 'video teasers' that Omen (2006) director, John Moore presented to conventioneers at the WONDERCON last February in in San Francisco.  Now, one of those teasers has been uploaded to YouTube.com.  This is the 'crosses on the house' teaser, where a suburban family is seen hammering makeshift crucifixes to the outside of their home.  Downright creepy!

The other teaser (no word yet!) depicts a little girl playing in her room when she hears something outside; she looks out the window to see a bunch of dead crows on the ground.  Then the camera pulls back to reveal thousands of dead crows.

LOTS OF BIG NEWS ITEMS IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS, BUT THE LATEST IS THAT HARVEY STEPHENS APPEARED AT COLLECTORMANIA 9 IN THE UK.

GO INSIDE THE OMEN SCORING SESSION WITH RARE PHOTOS!

NEW TRAILER DEBUTS ON ALTERNATE OFFICIAL WEBSITE!

Soon after reports circulated that a new trailer was previewing before Scary Movie 4, the official 'alternate' website: heedtheomen.com was updated in design and offered a new, full trailer (powered by Yahoo! Movies) -- though, not the one mentioned in the reports.

Moviegoers said that, in the trailer they saw, Damien says, "bye bye" during a crucial scene.  But this moment is nowhere to be found in the trailer at the website.  What IS found in the new trailer shouldn't let down any die-hards!

OFFICIAL POSTERS DEBUT!

The official posters are out!  And It looks like director John Moore got his wish: the initial one (top left) bears a striking resemblance to the mock-up he envisioned for FANGORIA.COM a month ago.  It's also the only one currently displayed in cinemas (bottom).  The other one is a bit more creepy but there's some fan-debate as to its authenticity.

Click the images above for larger versions.  Incidentally, the website advertised on both posters is NOT the official website: theomenmovie.com (where you can watch the International Teaser Trailer) but heedtheomen.com -- an official website 'place holder'.

Still Gallery

This is fantastic news! A lot of the features listed can already be found on the Special Edition (Donner/Baird commentary/Curse or Coincidence/Jerry Goldsmith on the Omen Score/666: The Omen Revealed), and The Omen Legacy is already out on DVD.

But the other stuff is quite appealing:

An introduction by Richard Donner seems like a wonderful opportunity for the director to get intimate with his Omen fans and say a few words that will surely reflect his affection and gratitude for a film that was a turning point in his career.

A new commentary with Richard Donner and Brian Helgeland. A peculilar pairing -- I'm not sure what Brian brings to the Omen table, but he is an Academy Award winning writer (Best Adapted Screenplay for L.A. Confidentail) who has worked on many hot properties (Conspeiracy Theorey, Mystic River) and some B movie shlock (976-Evil anyone?). Still, I'm very intrigued to hear what they have to say.

David Seltzer on Writing the Omen is hopefully not simply an edit of his interviews from previous documentaries (666: The Omen Revealed/The Omen Legacy) but something new. Now that I think about it, a Donner/Seltzer commentary would have ideal.

A still gallery -- I'm hoping it includes some rare images and not simply a roundup of the bits and pieces you can find on the web with a fair degree of Googling.

Theatrical Trailer -- is it too much to hope for an alternate trailer to the one included on the SE DVD? Cross your fingers!

And the two new items I'm most excited to see:

An Appreciation: Wes Craven on THE OMEN -- I think Wes is great. And to hear his thoughts on The Omen will be an ultimate treat!

Deleted Scene - Dog Attack with commentary by director Richard Donner and & writer/director Brian Helgeland -- AWESOME! **SPOILER** My guess is that this is the scene near the end of the movie, right after Thorn kills Baylock in the kitchen. In the theatrical cut he exits the mansion (with an unconscious Damien in tow), gets into his car and races to the church for the big finish.

But in the original version, after Thorn gets behind the wheel, the car is suddenly attacked by the guardian rottweiler. And who emerges from the house for one last go at Thorn?--a still-alive Mrs. Baylock! Being the desperate man he is, Thorn runs her down! Too rich. Donner ultimately cut the scene because he felt it prolonged the ending.

June is going to be a fun month!

11TH HOUR RESHOOTS AND THAT OLD OMEN CURSE RISES AGAIN!

Several online news reports, including one from JULIA-STILES.COM were so closely related, I combined them into one article:

Dundalk woman Geraldine Moore, mother of Hollywood director John Moore, is keeping her fingers crossed that he will be able to complete his latest film, a remake of ?The Omen? without any more misfortune.

John, from St. Clement?s Park, told listeners to Ryan Tubrity?s radio show last week that he had to transfer filming of the ?40 million remake to Ireland after running into trouble with ultra conservative Catholics in Croatia. ?We were originally due to film in Croatia but the Catholic Church went against us and kicked us out,? he said. ?Our sets were vandalised and burned down by thugs pretending to be shining lights of Christianity.?

The filmmaker revealed he had originally hoped to make the movie in Ireland with support from the Irish Film Board, but it proved too expensive. "Originally we tried to make the whole film here and the Irish Film Board were extremely co-operative, especially chairman James Morris who tried everything to bring this film to Ireland. But the euro just beat us down," he said

?In fact, I ended up bringing a lot of Irish crew to Prague and Italy where we shot it,? he said. John is working to a tight timeline to remake the classic 1976 film for release on a significant date June 6, 2006. The 20th Century Fox remake stars Julia Stiles, as Katherine Thorn, and Liev Schreiber as her husband Robert, while Mia Farrow has taken the role of Mrs Baylock.

The original movie concerned the arrival of the Antichrist into a family, starred Gregory Peck as a US ambassador, whose wife, played by Lee Remick, has a stillborn child. He substitutes another baby who turns out to be the Antichrist, born on the sixth hour of the sixth day of the sixth month.

?We are shooting scenes of Julia and young Damien in the early part of the movie when life is still tranquil, before he turns into the full-blown Antichrist,? John said, on the scenes being shot in Ireland. Filming of these scenes took place admit strict security last week before John and the crew flew to Los Angeles for post-production work on the film.

And he revealed the film had its own curse to overcome. ?We have had our troubles, we have had a lot of interesting problems on the movie, we have had strange things go wrong, the numerology 666 has appeared in bizarre situations,? he said.

?You know somebody got rear-ended by a taxi-cab in Prague and of course the plate number on the taxi was 666. We had some of our camera systems go down and the error computer number that came up was 666,? he said.

?On the day that we shot the scene where Liev Schreiber cuts the kid's hair, and reveals the scar that says 666, that entire day's filming was destroyed in the laboratory, 13,000 feet of film, every single roll, every single frame destroyed. So we've had our own little curseto deal with," he said.

John has been based in Los Angeles for the past five years, ever since he was plucked from filming advertisements in Dublin, by Twentieth Century Fox, to direct ?Behind Enemy Lines?.

He described the June 6, 2006, release date for The Omen 666 as ?a fantastic marketing gimmick?.
